I have learned that the one leaning towards divorce is often dealing with ambivalent feelings. This state is often experienced as confusing even numbing not only with the partner but with life in general. Confusion, numbness and uncertainty can then lead to a more chronic state of hopelessness.

I have learned that the person wanting to preserve the marriage is often dealing with a sense of urgency and often dread. Wanting for the partner to change but uncertain and anxious about how to make this happen. This can cause considerable tension and negative feelings of both self and other.

I have been working with couples since 2004.
