I have learned that the one leaning towards divorce is often dealing with ambivalence. They're not sure they want to leave the marriage or do couples therapy. They see therapy as a lot of work that will take energy they don't have.

I have learned that the person wanting to preserve the marriage is often dealing with confusion about how they got to this place of pain and uncertainty. They are sure they want to do whatever it takes to save the marriage. They usually feel like, as a couple, they haven't given the marriage enough of a chance.

I have been working with couples since 2010.
