I have learned that the one leaning towards divorce is often dealing with deep loneliness in the marriage, carrying unmet needs and unheard grief rather than simply a desire to leave. The most driving factors are a desire for relief and a sense of hopelessness.

I have learned that the person wanting to preserve the marriage is often dealing with a struggle between hoping their marriage will heal and a long-term frustration with a history of issues that have not yet found a resolution. They're fighting back anxiety and depression with hope and humility.
