I have learned that the one leaning towards divorce is often dealing with feeling stuck and hopeless, wondering about the impact of divorce, but seeing no other way. They may be feeling unseen, unheard and hopeless about the future of the marriage.

I have learned that the person wanting to preserve the marriage is often dealing with feeling deeply afraid, alone, and desperate. They are hoping to find some other path forward and are willing to try almost anything to restore connection.
