I have learned that the one leaning towards divorce is often dealing with ambivalence, a sense of hopelessness about the marriage changing, often already having grieved the relationship.
I have learned that the person wanting to preserve the marriage is often dealing with panic, anxiety, and desperation to save the relationship. They can also fluctuate between anger, pleading, and negotiation to urge changes in the relationship.
I have been working with couples since 2007.
