I have learned that the one leaning towards divorce is often dealing with deep ambivalence, sometimes swinging wildly from loneliness, hurt and resignation about the state of their marriage to fear, guilt and sorrow for even considering leaving, existing on a perpetual roller coaster of emotions that cause stuckness.

I have learned that the person wanting to preserve the marriage is often dealing with a sense of living on an emotional minefield, where no matter what they do seems to push their spouse towards the brink of leaving, leading to a sense of powerlessness and fear.

I have been working with couples since 1995.
